February 14, 2023
Since the deadly earthquakes struck Turkey, Syria, and those countries’ Kurdish regions on February 6, the number of victims has increased dramatically. As of February 14, more than 40,000 people have been killed, and nearly 100,000 are wounded. The collapse of thousands of buildings left many under rubble while victims’ families remain displaced on the streets, struggling with the freezing winter temperatures and hunger— a reality beyond description. Rescue crews have worked tirelessly around the clock. Despite herculean humanitarian efforts, however, the dire situation of hundreds of thousands of people still requires immediate aid and assistance from the international community and humanity.
The Washington Kurdish Institute (WKI) continues to monitor the humanitarian situation facing all the people affected across the region by this dreadful natural disaster. Our campaign will continue by focusing attention on difficulties facing the people, ensuring their voices are heard and that they can access much-needed aid.
Your generous donations are essential for those in the earthquake-stricken area seeking the basic necessities of survival. This disaster has displaced tens of thousands of children, women, and seniors. We believe the most effective way to direct aid and assistance to the Kurdish victims is through the following Kurdish organizations:
