The Kurdistan Islamic Union, colloquially referred to as Yegirtu, is a reformative Islamist party operating in Kurdistan region of Iraq. The group was founded in 1994 by Salahadin Bahadin, who continues to serve as Secretary-General of the party. Yegirtu pushes for an autonomous Kurdish region as part of a larger Islamic world, guided by Islamic principles and tradition. As of 2015, the party is affiliated with the Islamic Brotherhood, a transnational Islamist body centered in Egypt.
