On February 5, The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the start of the third phase of the liberation of ISIS de facto capital of Raqqa. According to the Spokesperson of the SDF Telal Silo, 4000 Arab fighters from the Raqqa and the region are participating in the liberation operation of Wrath of Euphrates. “The International Coalition has trained the new fighters who have joined the liberation campaign,” said Silo.
Rojeda Filat, a woman that is playing a leading role in liberation operation, said:” The third Phase started at two fronts of Suluk town [North of Raqqa] and the east side of Raqqa.” Filat described the first and second phase of the operation as “Victory” since it resulted in the liberation of hundreds of villages and saved thousands of people.
“We believe we will achieve a significant victory in the campaign.” said Filat. “The third phase will besiege the city to cut the roads to ISIS mercenaries inside the city,” added Filat.
On February 6, the SDF announced the liberation of a village north of Raqqa and seizing of 10 Kalashnikov rifles, 10 mortars, and 7 hand grenades.
Wrath of Euphrates a military campaign aims to liberate Raqqa province from ISIS terrorists. The operation is supported and backed by the U.S. led international coalition. The operation’s first phase started in Agust of 2016 to clear the rural areas of the province simultaneously with the campaign to liberate Mosul in Iraq.
