Turkey (Bakur or North of Kurdistan)
- Turkey’s Parliament commission passes a bill to lift Kurdish MPs immunity on May 2, 2016. People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co chair Selahattin Demirtaş said that citizens formed the basis of parliaments and political representation. Demirtaş stated that they would always defend the will of the people, and discuss other alternatives if HDP parliamentarians were arrested and prosecuted.
- Fights broke out among Turkey’s MPs while discussing the amendment on Turkey’s constitution. The ruling party AKP MPs attacked the Kurdish MPs. Physical fights continued for while leading the Kurdish MPs to leave the Parliamentarian hall.
- On April 30 Turkish fighter jets carried out an aerial attack in Qandil area along with scout planes at 23.00.
Syria (Rojava or West of Kurdistan)
- People’s Protection Units (YPG) Anti-Terror Units (YAT) seized many new cars in which ISIS gangs hide bombs and mines to blast in the city centers. According to the videos released by YPG Media Center, YAT members carried out a successful investigation and seized bomb- and mine-laden cars that ISIS gang members were planning exploit on the same day in different cities.
- During two days ago at least 1600 Iraqi refugees arrived Rojava northern Syria. Families escaped from Mosul city which ISIS controls it. The Refugees who arrived Rojava have received by Rojava Organization for Relief in Al Hol town – south east Hasaka provence- on Iraqi border.
- YPG (People’s Defense Units) Press Office has released a statement reporting ongoing attacks by groups targeting the mainly Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo. YPG accused the Islamic groups of continuing attacks on Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.
- A suicide attack hit the Asayish (Local Security) control point in Xelîç Street in Qamishlo’s Kornîş neighborhood around 845 April 30. According to information provided by Cizîr Canton Council of Health’s Co-chair, 5 Asayish members lost their lives and 4 others were wounded in the suicide attack.
Iraq (Bashur or South of Kurdistan)
- During an offensive from several frontlines near Arbil, An American soldier has been killed in the combat officials said Tuesday.
The U.S.-led coalition issued a statement saying one of its service members died in northern Iraq on Tuesday as “a result of enemy fire.” - Peshmerga forces with Shia Militias liberated a strategic village of Al Bashir south of Kirkuk city. On May 1, 2016 with U.S led coalition support, Al Bashir villager was completely cleared from ISIS.
- The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Monday (May 2) it plans to contract an international firm to audit revenue generated. Secretary of the KRG’s Council of Ministers Amanj Rahim told NRT that a foreign company would be brought to the Kurdistan Region to audit the government’s revenues following a decision from the cabinet.
- Iraq’s Kurdish parliamentarians returned to Kurdistan after protestors entered the Iraqi Parliament last week. At least three Kurdish MPs were exposed to danger after supporters of Al Sadr attacked them.
Iran (Rojhelat or East of Kurdistan)
- According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Afshin Sohrabzadeh, exiled political prisoner in Minab Prison, suffers from colon cancer. In protest at the denial of his request for medical leave he had gone on hunger strike and sewn his lips. He was transferred to the prison clinic in the wake of the deterioration, on April 22, 2016.
- GENEVA, Switzerland (Kurdistan24) – A group of human rights experts warned on Wednesday that a large number of political prisoners in Iran are denied the right to receive medical treatment. Some of these political prisoners are at risk of death. Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and other experts announced that several “prominent human rights defenders, lawyers and political activists are suffering from deteriorating health conditions as the Iranian officials continue to refuse adequate medical treatments to them.”
