Professor Zibari is native of Kurdistan and he took refuge in the United States in 1976. He graduated of
UTHSC College of Medicine (1985). Dr. Zibari completed his surgery Residency at LSUHSC
and completed a fellowship in abdominal solid organ transplantation at Johns Hopkins (1993).
He returned to LSUHSC Shreveport in 1993-2013, where he served as Professor of Surgery with
Tenure. He holds the Malcolm Feist Chair in Transplantation Surgery, LSUHSC-S. He is now
appointed as Director of John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center and Director of W-K
Advanced Surgery Center. He is a member of numerous very prestigious professional
organizations. Dr. Zibari has received numerous awards including AOA, elected as best Resident
of the year (x4) by his fellow residents & outstanding faculty teacher at LSUHSC-S, the Ellis
Island Medal of Honor (2007). He was honored at LSMS 135th Assembly (2015) with the community service award. Also, he is a recipient of Louisiana Chapter of ACS Humanitarian Scholarship award in January 2019. He has been doing medical outreach work in Vietnam, Philippines, Honduras, Nicaragua as well as Kurdistan for the last three decades. His clinical interest is in both areas of solid organ transplant and in minimal invasive HPB surgery. Dr. Zibari is past president AHPBA & past president of LOPA, ACS Louisiana Chapter, Surg Association of Louisiana & AFDT. Also, he is Governor of ACS and ASTROS task force member. He has a very busy Transplant & HPB surgical services. Finally, he is very passionate about medical outreach & capacity building abroad over period of last three decades.
