The Kurdish people, both in Kurdistan and abroad, commemorated the anniversary of the genocide that occurred in the Kurdish town of Halabja by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussien on March 16, 2016.
The genocide resulted in the death of 5,000 Kurdish civilians, including elderly and children. The attacks also led to the destruction of the Kurdish town and 7,000 cases of different types of cancers. The Halabja chemical attacks are considered a massacre against the Kurds, and was acknowledged by the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal as a genocidal massacre against the Kurdish people in Iraq.
