A letter written by the Co-chair of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtash from jail to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) is missing. According to the HDP deputy Hishyar Ozsoy, on December 15, 2016, Demirtash sent a letter to CPT stressing the conditions of the situation of the jailed HDP colleagues in two prisons. “He wrote about not only his own situation but also the situation of our MPs who imprisoned in Kandira and Silivri in detail,” said HDP deputy Ozsoy. The HDP deputy said they would file a legal case in this regard since the search for the letter did not result in any findings. He said” The letter is still missing. We will start legal proceedings in this regard”.
12 HDP deputies have been jailed, and hundreds of elected Kurdish officials were removed from their posts. Among the jailed HDP deputies are the Co-chairs of the HDP.
According to HDP, 5471 people of the party been detained and among those 1482 were imprisoned since July 15, 2016.
