The People’s Defense Units (YPG) released a statement in regards to Astana negotiations. The YPG rejected the outcome of the talk since they were not invited. Astana meeting is sponsored by Russia in the participation of Iran, Turkey, the Syrian regime and armed Islamic groups. Similiar to Geneva talks, Turkey demanded the exclusion of the Kurdish parties in the Northern Syria federation.
“Today, in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana, a meeting sponsored by Russia, Turkey and Iran was held on the crisis in Syria. We, as the People’s Protection Units (YPG), see those who participated in this meeting as parties who are part of the crisis in the region, parties who have made no contribution of any sort to a solution.
We hold that the crisis in Syria will be resolved through democratic projects, fraternity of peoples, and Autonomous Administration.
Since we were not invited to participate in the Astana talks, the decisions reached there will not be binding upon us. Resolutions made in Astana only concern those participating in the meeting.
We hope that the fighting and bloodshed in Syria will end and that a democratic solution will be found to the crisis in the region.”
