RAQQA – The command of “Wrath of Euphrates” Operation Room have revealed the outcomes of the initial phase of the campaign to liberate Raqqa from IS gangs. The command room affirmed that a distance of 550 km2 had been liberated: 34 villages, 31 hamlets, and many strategic hills. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander of “Wrath of Euphrates” said that 167 ISIS “mercenaries” have been killed.
In a press conference held in Hisha village, Operation Room has revealed the first phase outcomes of the campaign launched on November 5.
The commanders of the campaign have attended the press conference including its spokesperson Jihan Sheikh Ahmad, commanders Rojda Felat and Kino Gabriel, and commander of Sinadid Forces Bander Hamidi al-Hadi.
The spokesperson of SDF Gen. Talal Silo pointed out that the Wrath of Euphrates campaign aims at isolating Raqqa first by liberating its countryside and proceeding to the city then.
Silo noted that the city has been suffering for years from ISIS but the international community remained silent about Raqqa people agonies.
Gen. Talal Silo pointed out that SDF comprises Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, and Turkmen saying” the majority of the fighters participating in the Wrath of Euphrates operation are Arabs from Raqqa.
“The first phase of the campaign was launched on November 5 starting from two axes: the first is Ain Issa front. While the second axis was Suluk front where our forces have advanced in these axes and managed to impose a siege on a distance of 550 km2, a depth of 16 km and width of 46 km. After ten days battles, a distance of 550 km2 was controlled.”
The hills liberated are Tel Shiekh Hasan, Tel Sawan, Tel Minbatih, Tel Shaheen, Tel Rajili, and Tel Hadis.
In addition to that, power and water stations were liberated.
During the clashes and battles, 167 ISIS mercenaries were killed, 34 corpes of them are in the hands of our forces. Four terrorists were captured, and 12 bomb-laden vehicles were destroyed before reaching the target.
The following military equipment was destroyed: 12 military vehicles, 8 machine guns, 4 cannons, 3 trucks, 6 mortars, and 8 motorcycles and many defensive positions and headquarters were also destroyed.
240 mines were removed in the first phase, and different kinds of weapons and ammunitions were also seized.
During the battles, four of our fighters were wounded.
As for claims of civilian victims falling after the battles, all available data is not sufficient to prove its validity, and we are proceeding with investigations.
As for refugees displaced due to the battles, they will be returning to their houses as their villages are secured from IS and cleared from possible mines. The campaign continues till Raqqa is isolated and liberated
