Özbaş emphasized that the proposal attacked the political resolution of the Kurdish issue and criminalized politics. Özbaş called upon all parliamentarians to reject the AKP’s proposal of lifting the immunities of HDP parliamentarians.
TOPRAK: AKP IS LAYING THE GROUNDWORK OF THE PRESIDENCY REGIME
Former CHP parliamentarian Binnaz Toprak also spoke during the press conference and said that the AKP’s proposal was against the parliament’s bylaws and the constitution. Toprak recalled that the AKP parliamentarians whose corruption became public during the 17-25 December process were not investigated, and the AKP proposal to lift the immunities of HDP parliamentarians would render the parliament as dysfunctional. She added that with its proposal, AKP was laying the groundwork of the presidency regime and would slide Turkey into chaos.
‘CHP’S ATTITUDE IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE’
Toprak criticized the CHP’s support to the AKP’s proposal and said that the CHP’s attitude was incomprehensible. She stated that the CHP’s declaration of support to the proposal was against the law and its consequences would haunt the CHP in the future.
TEMELLİ: PROSECUTORS’ ARBITRARY STANCE IS DIFFICULT TO PREDICT
Former HDP parliamentarian Sezai Temelli emphasized that the AKP’s proposal was unconstitutional and paved the way for Erdoğan’s presidency regime. Temelli stated the prosecutors’ arbitrary stance was difficult to predict and the lifting of immunities was an attempt to silence all opposition groups in Turkey. Temelli called upon everyone to resist the AKP’s proposal and choose peace over war.
