On March 14, 2016, two Kurdish citizens from Ilam were injured in two separate landmine explosions.
Mehdi Khorasani from Cham Hindi area of Ilam, Eastern Kurdistan, is one of the victims who was grazing his cattle when his legs were heavily injured subsequent to a landmine explosion.
The second victim is Latif Ali Karam from Dehlorn of Ilam, Eastern Kurdistan, who also was injured from his legs in a similar incident in Ain Khosh area.
It is worth mentioning that the bordering areas of Iran and Iraq have still not been cleared of tens of thousands of landmines almost three decades after the end of the Iranian-Iraqi war. Kurds of Eastern Kurdistan, who share a long border with Iraq, have the lion share of landmine victims.
