Health situation of afshin Sohrabzadeh has reportedly reached a “critical” point in recent days. This Kurdish prisoner has long been grappling with “colon cancer, internal bleeding and kidney problems.”
In a letter he had previously sent to Ahmad Shahid the United Nations Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Afshin had said: “As far as I remember, I had never had any health problems before I was arrested. I was heavily tortured in the intelligence agency office and my nose was broken. As a result of severe blows inflicted by security forces, my hernia burst.”
Arrested by Kamyaran’s Intelligence Agency forces on June 8, 2010, Afshin Sohrabzadeh was sentenced to 25 years in jail after being convicted of perpetrating Moharebeh (Enmity against God) by Sanandaj Islamic Republic Court. In the late February 2012, he was transferred from Sanandaj Central Prison to Minab Prison in Southern Iran, where he is currently being held.
