HASAKAH, Rojava (November 9, 2015) — Combined forces from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), comprised of the People’s Defense Units (YPG), the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ), the Syrian Arab Coalition and the Syriac Military Council, managed November 8 to completely secure the path linking between the town al-Hawl and the village Khatuniyah in southern portion of Hasakah rural district, Jazeera Canton, Rojava, Syria. Over the course of operations carefully conducted by the SDF military units, four villages were cleansed of terrorist pockets, leading to killing of 16 terrorist elements, including 2 senior commanders (emir).
Suffering severe blows from these actions, elements of the terrorist group known as Daesh (ISIS) attempted to storm defense positions of the SDF utilizing vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, but their efforts did not succeed as the VBIEDs were targeted and destroyed before reaching their desired targets.
After operations in Hasakah’s southern countryside, combatants of the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to liberate the villages of Anzala and Sharabin along with two more rural areas from terrorist forces.
Over the course of mentioned activities of the combined SDF units, 11 terrorist fighters were confirmed killed, two of whom senior commanders. The two terrorist leaders, eliminated in the vicinity of Lake Khatuniyah, are identified to be Abu Khatab Iraqi and Abu Khalid Tunisian, active improvised explosive device facilitators.
In the early hours of today, November 9, heavy clashes took place between SDF forces and terrorist units in the region. Conflict there resulted in killing of 5 other terrorists’ attack elements. There, terrorists tried to attack SDF positions by suicide attacks, but their attempts were disrupted through a swiftly executed operation by SDF units.
“Operation SDF Campaign has been a multi-sided planned and performed operation since October 31 in southern Hasakah”, said Cmdr. Rebaz Hamid, commander in the People’s Defense Units. “The SDF components demonstrate their capabilities to free and protect the people of the rural district to the south of Hasakah region against terrorist elements that are threatening life of thousands of civilians there,” he added.
“The success in liberating nearly 300 square kilometers of terrorist-occupied areas during 10 days of a joint operation has also been due to active contribution of member military units from concerned local Arab and Assyrian components. This is another great example of unified military forces taking an initiative,” Hamid said.
Operation Syrian Democratic Forces, a joint operation involving Kurdish, Arab and the Assyrian military forces, which aims to build a diverse and democratic Syria and restore security in the region, is making further progress. The SDF coalition continues to carry out its commitment to supporting and defending all Syrian people in Hasakah region, carrying out daily combat operations against Daesh terrorist group in the past 10 days. The campaign is meant to be one of the key drivers in serving Arab, Kurdish and Assyrian population to restore their towns and villages to a state of peace and security.
